Elizabeth Bernadette Maher Obituary

Elizabeth Bernadette (Liz) Maher, 90, of Springfield, PA, passed away on December 5,

2024, in Hellertown, PA. Born on April 10, 1934, in Philadelphia to John and Catherine

Smyth, Liz was a proud graduate of Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and

West Catholic High School. After high school, she worked for the Bell Telephone

Company before becoming a full-time mother to her seven children. Once her youngest

daughter graduated from high school, Liz returned to work, contributing her skills in

office roles at doctors offices and in real estate.



Liz cherished spending summers with family and friends in Strathmere, NJ. She was

also dedicated to volunteer work, particularly at St. Kevin’s Elementary School and with

the Springfield Lioness Club, where her warm and welcoming personality earned her

top honors in membership recruitment.



Liz is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Joseph Maher (Joe), and their

children: Joseph Maher Jr. (Cathy), Lisa Hutchins (James), Kathleen Nader (Edmond),

Suzanne Dickerson, Diane McNamee, Teresa Maher, and Michelle Johnston (Hugh).

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Andrew and Aubrie Nader, Shannon

Trump, Connor Dickerson, Kelly Anne Dickerson, Shayne McNamee, Ailene Keys,

Keegan and Daisy Johnston, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: John Francis Smyth Jr., William

Smyth (Nancy), Gerald Smyth (Josephine), Marie Smyth, Dorothy McBride (James),

and Catherine Gallagher (John).



Liz will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit, devotion to her family, and her

contributions to the Springfield community.


Relatives and friends may call 10:30 A.M. on Saturday December 14th at St. Elizabeth Church 110 St. Elizabeth Dr. Chester Springs, Pa. where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M. Interment will take place at 12:30 P.M. on Monday December 16th at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa.
