Verner A. "Buck" Kortz Jr., 91, of Warminster, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Buck was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Verner A. Kortz and Lillian (nee Kirshner) Kortz. He married the late Elizabeth Ann (nee Gregg) Kortz in 1959, and they shared many wonderful years together until her passing in 2021.
Buck worked as a telephone equipment installer for Western Electric. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956 as a Specialist Third Class, working as a radio intercept officer for the Army Security Agency. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was also involved in his community as a Cub Master for Troop #137 of Warrington.
In his spare time Buck collected vintage cap gun toys. He was a gifted builder of wooden ship and plane models, and was an avid jigsaw and crossword puzzle fan. He played multiple string instruments and particularly enjoyed early country music. His favorite movie was the 1939 adventure Gunga Din.
Buck is survived by his children, Richard (Diane) Kortz, Kelly (Paul) Fitzgerald, and daughter-in-law Peg DeBaise. He was a cherished grandfather to Matthew, Patrick (Lydia), and Sean Fitzgerald, and Haven and Daniel Kortz. He was joyfully awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth Ann Kortz, his son Kevin Kortz, his sister Gail Fisher, and her husband Roy.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 8:30 A.M. at Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home, 529 North York Road, Hatboro. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 A.M., with interment to follow at 11:30 A.M. Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, Pennsylvania.
