Betty Jane (Rothenberger, Hendricks) Beifuss of Warminster, Pa, previously of Hatboro, Huntingdon Valley, Willow Grove and Ambler, Pa, peacefully passed away at Christ’s Home Warminster, Pa on Saturday, July 12, 2025, after week on hospice with visits with family and friends. She was 100 years old.
Betty was born February 1, 1925 in Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. Her parents were the late Dr. Frank Rothenberger and Elizabeth Shoemaker Rothenberger of Ambler, Pa.
Betty graduated from Ambler High School (now Wissahickon High School) in 1943, where she played saxophone in the school band. She graduated from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in 1947, with a B.A. Degree in Interior Decoration. After graduation, she worked in a fabric house in Philadelphia. She met her future husband at work when he was working there as an auditor for Haskins and Sells. She married John C. (Jack) Hendricks, Jr. of Wyncote, Pa on August 27, 1949, in the Ambler Presbyterian Church in Ambler, Pa and became a full-time homemaker and mom.
Betty and Jack moved to Willow Grove, Pa from 1949 to 1956, then to Huntingdon Valley, Pa, to a new home on Mason’s Mill Road. There they raised their four children and enjoyed life on their wooded property. Betty became an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Willow Grove, serving as church librarian, and volunteered collecting for Cancer and Heart funds for many years. The family traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, and when the children were grown, she and Jack traveled overseas several times to England, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, Sweden, Norway and Germany. In 1987, Jack passed away from cancer after 36 years of marriage.
A few years later her daughter Sally and her school friend Karen Beifuss introduced Betty to Karen’s father Charley Beifuss, who had recently lost his wife to cancer. In 1990, Betty and Charley were married and lived in Hatboro, Pa. They bought a small condo in Ocean City, NJ and spent many weeks a year at the shore, as well as traveling to Florida and the West. In 2017, they moved to a suite at Christ’s Home Adult Retirement Community, where they made many friends. In 2023, they moved to the skilled nursing section of Christ’s Home, where they became a beloved couple by the staff and residents. Charley passed away there on January 29, 2025 after 34 years of marriage. Betty enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday there with a party attended by family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by husbands Jack in 1987 and Charley in 2025, and stepdaughter Karen Ann Beifuss Ryan in 2000. She is survived by her children: Susan Swetnam, Pocatello, ID, John Hendricks (Susan) Warminster, Pa, Thomas Hendricks (Amy) State College, Pa, and Sally Hendricks, Willow Grove, Pa; her stepdaughter: Susan Nugent (Steven) West Chester, Pa; her grandchildren, Christopher Hendricks (Sarah), Christine Nugent Finck, Laura Nugent Hancock (William), Jennifer Lauren Ryan, and Great-Grandchildren, Jason Hancock and Susan Hancock, and several nieces and nephews.
