Thomas A. Gallagher, Sr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Born and raised in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, Tom was the son of the late George E. Gallagher and Barbara F. (Messec) Gallagher. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1970 and briefly attended the Naval Academy.
As a young man, Tom worked at the SPCA and had a lifelong love of ice hockey—first as a player and later as a referee for adult leagues. He also enjoyed coaching his son’s Little League teams.
Tom was employed by Philadelphia Gas Works for over 32 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna, and his beloved wife of 38 years, Janis M. Gallagher (Lucia).
Tom is survived by his children, Thomas A. Gallagher, Jr. and Theresa Halczak; his grandchildren, Christopher and Jason Halczak; and his great-grandson, Micah Halczak. He is also survived by his brothers, George Gallagher and Stephen (Kathy) Gallagher as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Tom's Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 7, 2025,at Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home, 529 N. York Road, Hatboro, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom’s name to the Morris Animal Refuge, 1242 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
