Elsie Pawellek Sutherland, 106, of Ann’s Choice, Warminster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday December 29, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Elsie will always be remembered for her kindness and love of Taylor’s port wine.
Born June 4, 1919, in Philadelphia, Elsie grew up as the only daughter of Paul and Katherina Pawellek and younger sister to brother William Pawellek. She graduated from Olney High School and Strayer School of Business.
Elsie had a strong work ethic and enjoyed meeting and working with many people throughout her life, continuing to work well into her 80s. She had numerous interesting jobs, each job having numerous interesting stories. She started her career at Sears and along the way worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Reading Railroad, the Budd Co., the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Smith Kline (now GSK), and MSE Associates. At one point in her career, Elsie opened and ran her own Employment Agency called Tender Loving Care (TLC) Associates. She was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, expanding her commitment to help others find a job. When Elsie was not at work, she could be found down the shore in Ocean City, NJ. She loved riding her bike on the boardwalk, eating a doughnut from Brown’s, and enjoyed the view of the beach from the balcony of The Flanders Hotel.
On April 4, 1942, Elsie married the love of her life, H. Monroe (Monnie) Sutherland. After 5 years apart during WWII, the two were reunited and remained happily married for 62 years. They had 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Keenan (Rick) and son William M. Sutherland (Laurie), as well as grandchildren Jennifer Kofke, Megan Keenan, Kaitlyn Bonavita (Nick), Tyler Sutherland, and great-grandchildren, Rowan Kofke, Aurora Bonavita, and Evelyn Bonavita. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monnie Sutherland, her daughter, Debra Ann Sutherland, her grandson, Christopher Scott Keenan, and her great-grandson, Hunter Shawn Kofke.
