Obituary of Joseph A. Naughton

Joseph A. Naughton

Joseph Aloysius Naughton of Hatboro, PA passed away on April 26, 2017 at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was 74.  The second youngest of six children, he grew up in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia.  He considered his father to be his best friend and his mother to be the strongest woman he had ever known.  He was especially close with his youngest sister Marie.

Joe began working in the textile industry at age 17 and worked his way up to successfully owning and operating his own fabric finishing company, first in Philadelphia and later in California where he moved in 1991.  He returned East to live in Hatboro in 2009 after the passing of his beloved wife Linda.

He considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment.  In his later years, he found joy spending time with his children and grandchildren, all of whom will miss him tremendously.  He enjoyed watching the Eagles, Phillies and college football. He was a voracious reader, and especially loved reading suspense novels. He never missed doing his daily word puzzles in the newspaper and loved cooking for and entertaining family and friends. Above all, he had an appreciation for music that spanned multiple decades and genres.

Joe will be most remembered for his incredible generosity, integrity, sense of humor and thoughtfulness. His resiliency in the face of adversity was unmatched.

He is survived by his children Kate Napoli (Vince), Margie Towler (Brian), Stephen Schummer (Stephanie) and Michael Schummer (Colleen) as well as his grandchildren Ivy, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Max, Rachel, Zach, Shane, Joey and Tommy.  He is also survived by his sisters Jane Gourley (Jack), Elizabeth French, and Marie Ondarza as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda, his parents Jane and Francis  Naughton, his brother Francis (Buddy) Naughton and his sister Catherine Flaherty.
