Richard A. Schmidt

Richard A. Schmidt of Warminster passed away Sunday May 6th 2018 from complications of pneumonia.  He was 81 years old.  He was the loving husband of Eleanor Schmidt of 710 Joy Court in Warminster.  Eleanor and Richard (Also known as Dick) were married for 34 years.  His daughter Donna Jenigen of Northeast Philadelphia and his son Steven Schmidt of Kennett Square Pennsylvania also survives Dick.  Dick has 2 surviving younger brothers Alan and Erick Schmidt.  Dick was the proud grandfather to 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He was born on Christmas day in the year 1936 to Ethel and Albert Schmidt of Philadelphia.  He was a graduate of Germantown High School class of 1955.  He later went on to receive an Associate Degree from Temple University before beginning a career as a lighting fixture sales rep. where he worked most of his life, eventually owning his own business.  He sold his business and retired in 2010.  In addition to working as a civilian with a briefcase, suit and tie, Dick served his country in the Air Force Reserves where he wore military dress (BDU’s) for 35 years.  He served at The Willow Grove Naval Air Station where he ended his military career in 1991 as a Senior Master Sargent.

Dick’s main passion in life was travel.  Tropical destinations, inside the United States or abroad, Dick was always looking to explore new and exciting areas of the globe.  He also loved to photograph his journeys and talk for hours about his many trips.  Dick was also an avid outdoorsman and spent many autumn days in the woods in search of whitetail deer, as well as, many summer days in a boat, deep sea fishing.  Of course, his favorite outdoor pursuit was simply sitting on a beach, any beach, with his wife Eleanor enjoying the sun, a cold beverage and the simple pleasures in life.  

A memorial service will be held this Saturday May 12 at Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home 529 N. York Rd. Hatboro. The viewing will take place from 9:30 until 10:45 A.M. with a service to follow at 11:00am. Interment is private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to: The Salvation Army.
