Obituary of Rose E. O'Reilly

Rose E. O’Reilly (nee Burns), 104, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023.

Rose was born in County Sligo, Ireland on February 12, 1919. She and her twin sister, Margaret were the middle of 10 children. Rose left home at 15 for a job in Dublin. After a few years and at the young age of 18, she moved to England during WWII, and contributed to the war effort as a nurse. She later immigrated to the United States in 1949. She lived in New York for 10 years. As fate would have it, Rose would meet her future husband on St. Patrick’s night in 1959. She continued working as a nurse, helping many patients during the course of her career. In her retirement, she helped care for her 3 grandchildren, attended church every morning and spent time saying the rosary. Even in her last few days, she could still recite the Hail Mary and Our Father in her native Gaelic language.

Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Patrick O’Reilly. She was the loving mother of Erin Hastings (Scott, the son she never had); caring grandmother of Scott, Taylor, and Reilly Hastings, and aunt to many nieces and nephews both here and abroad.
