Obituary of Robert Q. Alleva
Robert Q (Bob) Alleva passed away on April 4, 2024, at 88 years old. He is survived by Betty Ann Hanrahan Alleva, his loving wife of 64 years, their four wonderful and successful children, Michael (Kelly), Adena (Ralph), Marianne (Christian) and Quentin (Allison). He is also survived by two sisters Bette Wojciechowski from Rhode Island and Peggy (Jack) Sturm from Wisconsin as. well as many nieces and nephews. Bob and Betty Ann are also blessed with nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Bob was born in Norristown, PA on September 9th, 1935. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret H. and John J. Alleva, his two brothers John Jr. and Frederick, and his sister Natalie.
In his early years, Bob became an accomplished swimmer under the tutelage of his older brother, John Jr, who was already a champion swimmer. At Norristown High school (NHS) he was a member of the great NHS swim team who won the PA State Championship in 1952. Following his graduation from NHS he earned a swimming scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania (PENN) where he became a member of PENN’s swim and rowing team.
Beginning in high school, Bob developed a strong interest in and excelled in chemistry. This led to his majoring in and earning a BS degree in Chemical Engineering at Penn. After his graduation, he became an accomplished chemical engineer in the design and construction of chemical and pharmaceutical plants for a 43-year career,35 years of which he was employed by Raytheon Engineers and Constructors in Philadelphia, where he became Chief Chemical Engineer.
Bob and Betty Ann met and married in Syracuse, NY. With advancements in his career, they moved to Pennsylvania where he worked in Philadelphia. They lived in Melrose Park before moving to their home in Hatboro where they lived for 59 years and raised their four children.
Relatives and friends are welcome to a visitation at St. John Bosco Church, 235 E. County Line Rd., Hatboro, PA 19040 on May 24, 2024, from 9:30 to10:30 AM followed by a eulogy and Mass of Christian Burial. After the Mass, interment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery, 2400 DeKalb Pike, Norristown, PA. Luncheon to follow at Paravati Catering, 1489 Dekalb Pike, Bluebell, PA 19422.
