Obituary of Margaret Patricia Higgins

Margaret “Pat” Higgins passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024. She was born in Philadelphia on March 16, 1933 to Thomas P. and Marguerite (Maher) Burns.

Pat grew up in St. Columba’s Parish, and graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in 1951. Pat was a talented singer with a beautiful voice. She sang in the school shows at Hallahan, and also at USO shows and many weddings.

In 1955 she married John (“Jack”) Higgins, and together they raised seven children.  Pat was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by her children: Mary Higgins (Barry Simon), John (Linda), Stephen (Lily), David (Beth), Matthew (Tracie), Joseph (Allison), and Patricia (T.O.) Oliver. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and three (soon to be four) great grandchildren.

When her children were older, Pat went back to work. She worked as a teller at a Provident National Bank branch, and later at Alfa Laval, in Warminster, where she was Export Manager. Pat was completely devoted to her children and grandchildren. She loved children so much that in her retirement years she volunteered at a home for children with disabilities.

Pat was an active member of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Warminster for many years. She sang in the Nativity choir, and was frequently the soloist for “O Holy Night” at Christmas Eve Mass. Pat loved opera. For many years her son David would take her to Opera Philadelphia, and she thoroughly enjoyed that.

Pat is also survived by her sister, Joan Mackin. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Helen Jackson, her brother, William Burns, and her grandson, Jack Simon.

Pat was a kind, loving and generous soul. She is sorely missed.
