Carl Brauer

Obituary of Carl Brauer

Carl was born in Philadelphia to Karl and Sophie Brauer on November 26, 1929. He retired after 35 years of working as a splicer technician for Verizon, and then spent the 33 wonderful years of his retirement enjoying time with his family, especially with his grandchildren to whom he was known as “Bebop”.

Carl was drafted twice; first by the Marines in 1952, again in 1954 by the Army where he was stationed in Germany for 2 years as a Communications Specialist.

Carl was a skilled electrician and carpenter. He could build or fix anything; and if someone were ever in need of a household item, there was a high chance he had a version of it stored in his basement, ready to be given to you the next time he would see you. Carl was most comfortable sporting a pair of his well-worn jeans and was never shy to grumble if he had to wear dress clothes for more formal occasions. Watching The Price is Right was a main staple in his morning routine; he was also a dedicated viewer of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and never missed writing down the bonus round puzzle. Although he loved the Phillies and never missed watching a baseball game, he would root against the home team because he knew it would get a rise out of his family. Carl enjoyed watching NASCAR racing on Sunday afternoons followed by having family dinners on Sunday evenings. He loved music, especially the Big Band Era, and he shared the love of that music genre with his family.

Carl would do anything for his family, and we will always cherish the significance of his presence in our lives.

Carl is survived by his daughter Heidi Langdon and his son-in-law Mark; his grandchildren, Mark, Jr. and his wife Kaylyn, and his granddaughter Heather. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha, son David, his sister Ann and brother-in-law Amerigo Anastasi, and his parents Karl and Sophie Brauer.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at 11:30 A.M. Friday, September 13th at Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home 529 N. York Rd., Hatboro. Carl's Memorial Service will follow at 12:30 P.M. Interment Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Horsham.
