As a 12 year old alter boy at St. Benedict’s parish in the late 1950’s, I was responsible for serving funeral masses. On more than a few occasions, I would sit on the alter and watch as Lou Plunkett would lead the casket and procession to the foot of the altar. Watching Lou walk, as though he just stepped-out-of-a-Jacob Reed window (think Brookes Brothers) I thought when I grow up, I want a suit just like Lou’s and I’ll look just as good as him. Eventually, I got that suit; but I never did look quite as good as Lou.
Lou, hopefully you’re wearing that suit as you walk through the gates to heaven.
